The agreement will facilitate the implementation of the TR Recapture® system in Spanish municipalities, improving waste traceability and promoting the ‘pay-as-you-throw’ principle in accordance with Law 7/2022.
The Foundation for the Circular Economy and the company The Recirculars have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at driving innovation in municipal waste management through the development and promotion of advanced traceability systems. This agreement aligns with the strategy of both entities to foster technological solutions that enable more efficient, transparent, and circular economy-aligned waste management.
The agreement focuses on supporting the TR Recapture® project, developed by The Recirculars, which stands as a pioneering solution for tracking waste flows. By leveraging RFID technology, this system enables detailed and verifiable tracking of waste from its generation to its final treatment, facilitating the application of the “pay-as-you-throw” principle, as established in Spain’s Law 7/2022 on waste and contaminated soils for a circular economy.
The signing of the agreement, held in Ibi, Alicante—where the company is headquartered—lays the foundation for the promotion of pilot projects in Spanish municipalities, contributing to improved recycling rates and optimizing municipal waste management costs. Key areas of collaboration include the dissemination of the TR Recapture® system, engagement with local administrations for its implementation, and the development of strategies to adapt its use to local regulatory frameworks.
During the signing event, Ángel Fernández Homar, President of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the Circular Economy, stated: “This agreement represents a fundamental step forward in applying innovative technologies for more efficient and sustainable waste management. Waste traceability is essential to ensuring a true circular economy, and our collaboration with The Recirculars allows us to enhance a tool with great transformative potential.”
For his part, Ignacio Guillem, CEO of The Recirculars, remarked: “Our TR Recapture® technology has the potential to revolutionize how municipalities manage their waste, providing a reliable and transparent solution for implementing pay-as-you-throw policies. Having the support and expertise of the Foundation for the Circular Economy is a crucial step toward the effective and widespread adoption of this system in Spain.”
This agreement reinforces both entities’ commitment to transitioning toward an effective circular economy, leveraging technological innovation as a key driver for more efficient and sustainable waste management.
